Massage in Pregnancy

Is pregnancy massage safe?

Pregnancy or prenatal massage may be used to reduce swelling in arms and legs, reduce stress and is known to relieve muscle and joint pain in a pregnant woman. It can involve many massaging techniques but usually involves a gentle massage.

Pregnancy massage can help you cope with the stresses of new changes the body is going through. It is especially helpful when you are unable to use certain medications.

Pregnancy massage details:

Pregnancy causes musculoskeletal changes which can lead to stress on your neck, back, and abdominal muscles. A pregnancy massage is designed to decrease these pains and aches. Pregnancy massage must be done by a trained therapist. Before the start of the massage, your therapist will ask you about your general health. They will then gently ask you to lie down on a special massage table. Your privacy will be protected by warm towels or sheets of cloth. The therapists mostly use oil or certain creams to gently massage your body. If you are in the second trimester or more, your therapist might make you lie in some other position to accommodate the changes to blood flow to the mother later in pregnancy.
